Hi Folks
My family line goes to Caroline Ashton and I do live in old Reach Twp., Ontario were the Stoutenburgs spent a several years before they moved to Grey Cty. I do find the Stoutenburg family very interesting as they were very prominent around here.
The reason for me finding this page is to get more info on Carolines' father William Ashton. We have no defenant Birth or Death date, also his burial site is up for debate (may be buried by wife in Kendall Cem. Utica ON. no headstone for him). Any info would be greatly appricated.
Ok back to the Stoutenburgs in Reach Twp. On. They have been mentioned in books such as "Murder and Mayhem" & Houses of Uxbridge and Scugog. Peter was a tavern/hotel keeper in the villages of Epsom & Utica until they moved to Thornbury. I have visited Caroline's grave site and have pictures of headstones from there if anyone is interested. I have had no contact with living relatives in that area. Thanks for the forum for me to get my word. Rob

Just wanted to note a possible typo (in the original or maybe transcription):
_________
On Page 3

71- Peter Stoutenburg, died October 11, 1889 aged 34 years, 9m. & 20 d.
His wife, Caroline Ashton, died 7 Nov. 1901 aged 83 years, 5 m. & 9 d.
_________

I think Peter Stoutenburg was either 84 or 74 when he died, not 34, in 1889. If he'd died at 34 in 1889, and Caroline died 12 years later at 83, she would have been 71 when he was 34 - ! If this was the case, please let me know so I can correct my tree; seems more likely that an 8 or 7 was transcribed as a 3.
